Sorry they are out of business

Smooth Fitness - Sorry they are out of business
Bought a CE 7.4 in 2010. Had to sell it in 2012 because I had to temporarily downsize. I had no problems while I owned it.

Running in circles. Why is there a Smooth Fitness active website without any ability to contact customer service

It turns out that this company has gone out of business. A private individual bought up the spare parts but no longer has parts for the elliptical trainer.

Fortunately, I was able to repair the product without requiring a unique part. Shame on the company for leaving the website up and running without letting previous customers know the situation!

Original review Dec 29, 2020
Unable to obtain customer or technical support for minor replacement of parts for thousands of dollars in exercise equipment. The main an active website without any explanation that it may be out of business or who to turn to for replacement parts of a unique high-priced exercise equipment.

Great

I have had the 8.8 HRC for 15 or so years. The only issue I have ever had is the heart rate remote monitor battery cover broke. I am very happy with my unit.

Angry Customer

I purchased Smooth Fitness. It was used jut for walking. At present time it is not working. I contacted Smooth Fitness at 877-864-****. I was put on hold for over one (1) hour. I was told that they do not repair for fix problems for the Smooth Fitness. I was put on hold for another hour. After contact with a live person, I was told she cannot help with my problem, but will refer me to another repair service. I spoke with this company at 347-571-****. The initial fee to come and diagnose the problem will be $260. After that then they will order the parts, I am responsible for the parts, shipping and another $260. to do the repair. My review is. no one should ever purchase a Smooth Fitness product. Worst service received from Smooth Fitness. They sell their product and then they are not responsible if it is lemon. Smooth Fitness is now a Scam

DO NOT BUY A SMOOTH FITNESS MACHINE. There is no one to talk to if your machine needs repair should something break NOT WORTH BUYING any way you look at it. I bought a Smooth Fitness treadmill a few years ago and worked fine till recently. Now that the belt on the treadmill stopped working there is no one at Smooth fitness to help me. All your told when you call is they cant help you as instructed by their manager. Do your self a favor from a potential headache and DO NOT BUY ANY SUCH EXERCISE MACHINES FROM SMOOTH FITNESS, YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DIDN'T.

I spent a lot of money a few years back on a Smooth treadmill. After doing research I found them to be highly rated and a great warranty, so I didn't mind the extra cost up front. Had problems from the start with the tread and deck, which was taken care of by them. Now the tread, deck, plastic face plate and motor went bad. I know they have new ownership but I find it highly unethical to not honor the warranty that was promised. The cost to repair is $1000 and that would be added on to the $150 I already spent on the tech service call. I HAVE GONE FROM A SMOOTH SUPPORTER TO A SMOOTH BASHER. Very disappointed.

Company went BANKRUPT 2014

Just called the number for service at smooth fitness and found out the company was bankrupt last year and my warranty on the treadmill is void now! I have a roller going bad and the treadmill Doctor told me that I would have to pay 174 dollars just to have the service guy come out!

What a crock! Then I have to pay for the parts now. The reason I bought this treadmill in the first place was because of the great Warranty, LOL what a joke! So now not sure what to do to fix it.

I almost bought another treadmill for my daughter last week from the website that is still called smooth fitness but is really Icon. Buyer beware!!!

Smoothfitness.com and warranty repair parts.

The company Smooth Fitness LLC is no longer in business as of November 2014. Smooth Fitness LLC was foreclosed by its bank.

The bank, Siena Lending out of Stamford, Ct has liquidated the assets of Smooth Fitness LLC. Icon Health and Fitness is now owned by smoothfitness.com. They are a reputable company and are currently selling machines under the Smoothfitness brand. Icon purchased the domains, and trademarks only.

Icon is not responsible for covering any of the previous product warranties or supporting parts replacement for the machines created prior to their purchase.

This site is owned and operated by TreadmillDoctor.com Inc. TreadmillDoctor is not able to support the prior warranties for any of the existing machines. We knew that existing customers would need a place to turn to find parts to keep their older machines running. TreadmillDoctor decided to help people with these concerns by purchasing all of the repair parts inventory from Smooth Fitness during the liquidation process.

We are always here to help keep your machines up and running so you can stay fit. You can purchase replacement parts here at www.smoothrepair.com or call our helpful technicians for free assistance in trouble shooting your problem to make sure you get the correct parts for your repair job.

It's taken me three days to find out who has taken over the parts for prior Smooth Fitness equipment. Thank you! I hope it's still TreadmillDoctor.com is still up and running.

Guest

If you know you need the roller, just purchase and install it your self. They are very easy to do and some of the phone techs that work for treadmill doctor use to work for smoothfitness and are very helpful. They were able to fix my Agile dmt that i purchase in 2013.

Guest

Wow, sorry to hear that. I just realized that that they were bought out by the above name before coming across this.

I had a Smooth Fitness Elliptical for 2 years from 2010-**** and I was very happy with it. The first thing I noticed when they delivered it to me was how strong it appeared to be built and how amazingly quiet that it operated.

I saw an ad for Sit N Cycle and it had it for $19.95 and free shipping.

I figured I can afford that. It wasn't until I click to purchase that the total showed up as over $200.00

So I cancel the purchase.

Didn't continue with the transaction. Didn't confirm the transaction. Yet, when I when into my online banking I noticed they had taken my money.

I emailed them and told them.

"I didn't order their product. I cancelled the transaction. I told them, "Do not send the product! return my money!" I got a reply saying sorry, can't do!"

This was within an hour of going through the process.

I have never known any company who works that fast.

They have refused to cancel the order with I didn't make or return the money they took.

This was has been over 10 days ago and I have yet to get my money back or get their product. So I have no money or anything to show for it.

Looks like most of us are SoL (unsurprisingly). According to https://www.smoothfitness.com/company-story (where there is of course no customer service number or anything helpful, just sales)...

"In December of 2014, ICON Health & Fitness purchased the trademarks and URLs...

I bought an Agile DMT X2 elliptical from Smooth Fitness in July, was told it was back-ordered until September, finally received it on October 15. I got white-glove delivery and installation but noticed that the machine needed some adjustments and repairs within the first two weeks (not unusual for a machine to need some adjustments).

I contacted Smooth and got no response (twice via email and web form). I called Smooth Customer Service today and was informed that the company went out of business in early October and the warranty was useless.

So basically, now I have a $2000 less-than-a-month old elliptical that needs service and is under warranty but is basically a waste. I know that I am not alone. Please let's start a class-action suit at http://topclassactions.com/start-a-class-action/

I have a Smoth Fitness Eliptical that stopped working for the second time. Now it just sits there due to the company going out of business.

Under Warrenty but that is useless. lLooks like they are still selling on there web site.

Stay away from Smooth. Only thing SMOOTH is in the way they took my money.

Im in the same boat. It totally sucks.

My control panel doesn't work.

Treadmill Doc will sell me a new one for $500 even thought I thought I had a lifetime warranty. Gee thanks.

Guest

The website is now down and some former Smooth employees are now working at http://www.treadmilldoctor.com, which will do your parts/repair stuff but they will not honor the Smooth warranty (reasonable as they aren't at fault and they are a different company). I don't know what to do now.

Any suggestions? Is a class-action suit the way to go?

Guest

I too have a SmoothFitness product that is only a year old. In that time it has gotten about 30 days of use. Has anyone initiated a class action yet?

Guest

I have the same problem, my elipical is only 13 months old. I went to class action suit site below and could not find anything that deals with Smooth Fitness.

I am in, but will need assistance finding how we can make this happen. They falsely advertised great warranties.

Guest

I have contacted my credit card company to dispute my purchase, since I'm having similar issues with needing parts that should be covered under warranty on an elliptical that I have had less than 60 days, and have assembled a fraud case for them to refund my money back to me. I'm still waiting to see how it pans out, but I will update as soon as I find out one way or another what they are going to do for me.

I had been told by multiple outlets to take this step first. There's quite a bit of evidence that they want for this process, but it's worth it if they can get a refund for you.

Hey, Josh. Ditto with me and my credit-card company.

Something interesting I learned today from chatting with the warranty guys (a separate company that inherited the Smooth debacle and has the burden of telling Smooth customers that we are SOL) is that this is not the first time that Smooth has "suspended operations." Apparently they did it once before for a month or two and then got back in and started selling machines and honoring warranties. We'll see. For me, any way one slices it, they knew what they were doing and when and they left a lot of people in a very-expensive lurch. Totally unethical.

Let's keep each other posted. Best to you!

Thank you for this update. I am having a similar issue.

Bought a brand new treadmill from this company in September.

Needed some adjustments and called service only to be told that they have shut the doors and the warranty is void. Please keep me updated and I am glad to join in on action against these unethical business people.

Same scenario here. I have contacted PayPal and they are looking for something more concrete about them going out of business.

Except for this complaint board, I can not find anything else related to this. If anyone has found or finds something relating to Smooth Fitness closing, please pass it on.

The *** thing is - their website is still active and they are still selling treadmills - just ran into the same thing today that they have "suspended operations" - but it sure doesn't look like anything is suspended.

Smooth Fitness Out of Business

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I purchased a treadmill on Sept 22 using their white glove service. Belt on machine did not work. Called smooth fitness and they sent a tech out on Oct 22nd. Tech came and could not get it to work. I called smooth fitness and the phone call was redirected to someone not affiliated with smooth fitness who informed me that smooth fitness is no longer in business. I called paypal to lodge a complaint and they said I needed to send the merchandise back. I called again smooth fitness, same thing, rerouted. I spoke to the gentleman and he said there is no way to send it back. I called paypal and they said I needed something that indicates that smooth fitness is out of business. All I can find on the web that indicates smooth fitness is out of business is complaints on this message board. Does any have something more definitive that the company is no longer in business that they could share? Much appreciated!

Not sure what our options are, but we're gaining in numbers. Class-action suit? I just want service and my warranty honored on a machine that was delivered AFTER they went out of business.

DO NOT BUY! Non-existent customer service for dust collector/treadmill

I own the Smooth 9.65LC for 8 months. So far the product works as prescribed. It came on time and we enjoy using it when we do. (That is not often) We don't use it much and would like to use it more than we do. However, the customer service at Smooth is horrible. If I did have a problem I would not be able to get help. I have been on the web site and looked for any help. There is none there. https://www.smoothfitness.com/ Take a look for yourself as of 3/18/2015. I read the manual and it instructs to go to the website to answer my questions. There is no help, there are no answers, there is no trouble shooting, there are no contact numbers except sales and a media relation email address for Colleen Logan VP of marketing. When I called the sales number and asked a question they transferred me to ICON as quickly as possible. This happened two times. The second time I plead with them that ICON didn't know any Smooth treadmills. I spoke with Glen the first time and Judy the second time. Both Glen and Judy were asked if they could help me with Smooth Treadmills. Both of them said "no, we do not work with smooth treadmills. we can't help you." Glen told me to contact 1-88*-308-****. This got Smooth and they transferred me back ICON where I got Judy. She told me the same thing that Glen did after asking a supervisor. They had no help. They did not know what to do. After looking up "OUR STORY" on the website I now see that Smooth Fitness has been bought by ICON Health and Fitness. It seems to me that they will not honor the warranty or offer any help on the previous models that Smooth sold to me even though they now own the company. Truly, these treadmill companies, offer no help after you purchase the treadmill. I suggest that you do not buy a treadmill but run outside or if you must go to a gym. The manuals are not even helpful. The websites are not helpful. Take a look for yourself. https://www.smoothfitness.com/ This is what you will get after you buy the expensive dust collector.

The truth of the matter is that Icon could give two shi** about the individual customer. The company is famous for purchasing brands and then running those brands into the ground. NordicTrack was actually a decent brand before Icon bought it out.

We all need to file a Class Action Lawsuit

Have been waiting for parts for an elliptical that I purchased less than 1 year ago. They told me that the parts would be delivered to me in a week or two, it has now been 4 months and I have just learned that they have gone out of business. These machines were sold on the premises of their LIFETIME WARRANTY!!!!!! As soon as someone has the information necessary to file a lawsuit, please lets move forward with this as soon as possible. I purchased my machine in 2013 and it seems like they were having problems in 2012 and continued to deceive their customers.

I was also burned for $1800. Small claims court?

I think that's a good idea. I had the same issues with them when I was in law school but I didn't have the time to pursue action.

Now I work in Pa, where their warehouse was located. If you guys are serious, I can probably help.

Guest

I have the exact same problem. I bought an elliptical late 2013 (by the time it was delivered early 2014) and since then it hardly worked.

My loses are around $1500.

Guest

I agree. We need to file a class action lawsuit.

Anyone know how??

I just bought my treadmill and called for problems with the treadmill and found out that they are out of business! I am pissed!!
